"you're all insane..."

derek gustafson (guitar)

The Jimi Hendrix experience was by far the first real taste of relentless screaming guitar that caught my ear at the ripe age of ten. Not ever hearing these guys before, a buddy of mine threw on Side A of the LP "Are You Experienced?" and cranked the volume. I sat there and listened to the song (which we all hear to this day), "Purple Haze," in complete awe. Even though I admit it wasn't the best Jimi ever did, to me at that time it was definitely the shit! Coincidentally, at that time my older sister was taking guitar lessons from a dude she had a thing for and when that went south she gladly gave me all of her equipment with no desire to pursue the heartbreaking guitar teacher or the guitar ... Thanks teach! Throughout the years I drifted through plenty of great music, ranging from Sparks, The Stooges, Mott the Hoople, Bowie into the louder and faster Dead Kennedys, COC, the whole SST Blasting Concepts, concept. Top it all off with the confusing brilliance of Frank Zappa ... So that's where I come from. Now it's time to shut up and play my guitar!
